Achillea                                                                                                                                                                          

Achillea ‘Firefly Fuchsia’ and ‘Firefly Red Pop’ are part of a new yarrow collection from Walters Gardens that will light up summer gardens just like fireflies. ‘Firefly Fuchsia’ features deep pink flowers that age to light pink. ‘Firefly Red Pop’ features bright cherry red flowers with small yellow eyes and silvery green foliage. Zones 3-8. A Proven Winners perennial.                                                                                                          

Agapanthus

Blackjack Agapanthus from Plant Development Services, Inc. (available through Southern Living Plant Collection and Sunset Plant Collection) was named the 2023 RHS Chelsea Flower Show Plant of the Year and 2024 National Garden Bureau Green Thumb Award winner. Drought tolerant and an early bloomer, Blackjack features jet-black buds that mature to saturated dark purple flowers. It thrives in Zones 8b-11, reaching 14-20 inches tall by 14-16 inches wide when mature.

Agastache

Agastache cana Zuni from Benary is a sun-loving, heat and drought tolerant perennial with violet flowers and dark foliage that attracts beneficial insects. It has a vigorous, bushy plant habit, a long flowering season and is suitable for landscape applications. Grows 28-32 inches tall by 16-24 inches wide. Grows best in full sun. Hardy in Zones 5-9.

Celestia Agastache, a new type of Agastache foeniculum from Danziger, is a larger plant than typical Agastache, bred for better branching and flower power. Its large, thick blooms capture attention in the garden, and pollinators love it, too. Recommended for Zones 7-10.

Agastache Betterbuzz Red from Dümmen Orange completes the growers’ trifecta: It’s heat and drought tolerant; it satisfies the demand for pollinator-friendly plants; and it’s a true first-year flowering perennial, requiring only long days and warmth. Hardy in Zones 6-9, Betterbuzz handles the heat and excels in the shoulder season.

Allium

Allium ‘Cobalt Millenium’ from Plants Management Australia/ThinkPlants features blue-green foliage that holds well and is stronger and more vibrant for consumer appeal. Dark pink blooms with a good flower count on each plant.

Allium ‘Bobblehead’ from Walters Gardens supersizes ‘Serendipity’ as a much larger, robust plant, with bigger blooms, an earlier bloom time and a lighter flower color. Globe-like 3-3½-inch pale lilac flowers appear in midsummer. Foliage is glaucous blue-green with a twist to each individual leaf. ‘Bobblehead’ has good heat and drought tolerance. Zones 4-8. A Proven Winners perennial.

Alstroemeria

The Summer Paradise Series from HilverdaFlorist offers tall and voluminous perennial Alstroemerias in vibrant colors. New to the series is Summer Rose, with bright pink flowers. It’s ideal for background borders and even picking bouquets. Additionally, new to the Summer Valley Series, the little sister of the Summer Paradise Series, is River Valley, with pink flowers coming from a unique bicolored foliage. Both produce flowers from spring until the first frost and are hardy to Zone 7.

Alstroemeria ‘Inticancha Paraíso’ from HilverdaFlorist features a luxurious dark purple color and large flowers, adding a special touch to any patio or garden. Inticancha is suitable for outdoor cultivation and shows minimal flower damage under direct sunlight. Hardy to Zone 8.

Anemone

Anemone Satin Doll ‘Glow’ from Terra Nova Nurseries is a genetic dwarf plant, perfect for a garden or featured pot plant. It displays a moderate, clumping growth pattern and exhibits full-sized, pink daisy-like flowers that attract pollinators. ‘Glow’ thrives during the summer season, blooming July through October.

Aspidistra

‘Tokyo Skies’ Aspidistra from Plant Development Services, Inc. (available through Southern Living Plant Collection and Sunset Plant Collection) features broad, dark green foliage adorned with unique cream and white variegation. This water-wise perennial offers stellar visual interest in partial to full shade areas, hardy in Zones 8-10. Size at maturity is 2-3 feet high by 1-2 feet wide.

Buddleia

Dümmen Orange’s new Buddleia Little Rockstars Red is a compact plant adorned with lots of cone-shaped blooms. The size is just right for small pot (1-2 gallon) production and looks like a floral bouquet all season long. Zones 5-9.

Colocasia

Colocasia esculenta Royal Hawaiian ‘Waikiki’ from PlantHaven International features deep-green glossy foliage with white markings and vivid pink veins. Royal Hawaiian Colocasias, with their tidy clumping habit, are bred to be sturdy garden performers and container specimens.

Cordyline

Cordyline Magic Star from Plant Development Services, Inc. (available through Southern Living Plant Collection and Sunset Plant Collection) features a unique coloration that lasts all year: green leaves with creamy white edges shift into pink at the bottom with a crimson trunk. Shortlisted for Chelsea Plant of the Year in 2023, Magic Star reaches 30 inches tall and wide, thriving up to Zone 6b in full sun to partial shade.

Coreopsis

Coreopsis grandiflora F1 MakeUp Yellow Red Eye from Hem Genetics is a compact first-year flowering perennial with a mounded well-branched habit. MakeUp blooms prolifically for a long period with bright yellow and red bicolored single flowers and is heat tolerant and easy to grow. Coreopsis MakeUp is perfect for perennial beds, borders, mixed pots, containers and mass production. Hardy in Zones 4-9.

Coreopsis Sunstar️ ‘Rose’ from Terra Nova Nurseries features white-edged flowers with rose-colored eyes, blooming from June through September. ‘Rose’ is a hardy coreopsis with feathery, mildew-resistant foliage and a clean, manicured habit. This variety is a strong addition to mixed beds, borders, containers and mass plantings; Sunstar ‘Rose’ also acts as an accent plant.

Coreopsis verticillata Designer Threads ‘Golden Needles’ from Walters Gardens features thread-like foliage and golden yellow flowers (notably large for C. verticillata at 2 inches wide) with sharp maroon central eye zones. Zones 5-9. A Proven Winners perennial.

Delosperma

Dümmen Orange’s new Delosperma Rock Crystal Magenta Pop sparkles with vivid small flowers over a compact mound of succulent-like green foliage. This early-flowering item fills the small pot production gap, with eight candy-colored varieties beckoning gardeners on retail benches. It’s also a great groundcover. Zones 6-9.

Delosperma Solstice from Dümmen Orange features six colors in shades of red, orange and purple. They’re suitable for fall sales but also have all-season consumer appeal. These are well-suited for medium pot production, including hanging baskets. Zones 6-9.

Delosperma Kaleidoscope ‘Razzle Dazzle’ from Walters Gardens features large flower sizes and improved cold hardiness. Members of this series have reliably overwintered in Zone 6 west Michigan climates for multiple years prior to selection. Bi-color flowers transition from raspberry red tips to fuchsia purple eyes around cream centers. Zones 5b-10. A Proven Winners perennial.

Delphinium

For Syngenta Flowers’ Hunky Dory Delphinium (Delphinium grandiflorum), F1 vigor provides excellent germ and young plant performance, eliminating the need to multi-sow. The plant habit is ultra-branched, filling a wide array of formats quickly. Large blooms create an abundance of color, flowering uniformly within each variety and across the series for a speedy and efficient crop.

Dianthus

Dümmen Orange’s new series Dianthus Cliff, including Pink Spot, is early flowering with long-lasting flowers. The bright colors contrast against silver foliage. Cliff is a hardy series with excellent landscape performance.

Dianthus Pemán Red from Dümmen Orange features a compact rounded habit fully covered with semi-double flowers. An intense Red is the latest addition to the series, now with five varieties.

Dianthus Electric Dreams is the newest addition to PlantHaven International’s scented, ground-hugging alpine Pinks by Whetman portfolio. The vibrant, colorful, scented flowers bring hot pink tones to the early-season lineup and are perfect for premium gallons, quarts, 6-packs and shallow bowls. Hardy to Zone 5 with a compact mounding habit (5 inches by 8 inches).

Dicentra

Amore Titanium Bleeding Heart from Monrovia features clusters of pure white flowers set atop soft blue-green, finely textured foliage. With exceptional vigor and heat resistance, it continues blooming from spring all through summer. Hardy in Zones 4-9.

Echinacea

Danziger’s award-winning Panama Echinacea series adds a new color in 2025. Panama Rose is a bright purple coneflower with good branching and rooting. Panama Rose is early to bloom (weeks 22-24) and exhibits flower power throughout the season. A first-year flowering perennial, it requires no vernalization or bulking and is recommended for Zones 5-11.

Danziger is growing its echinacea program with a new addition to the Guatemala series. Guatemala Papaya features bright orange blooms that stand out in the garden center and in the garden. Guatemala is a high-performing URC series that flowers in weeks 22 to 24, then provides long-lasting bloom power for the home gardener. This first-year flowering perennial requires no vernalization or bulking and is recommended for Zones 5-11.

Darwin Perennials enhances its top-selling Echinacea x hybrida coneflower series with next-level flower coverage and petal overlap in Sombrero Mandarin Mambo, and intense vivid pink color in Sombrero Fuchsia Fandango. The series continues to promise first-year-flowering reliability, habit uniformity and high flower count per plant. Echinacea is drought tolerant, attractive to butterflies and is deer resistant for long-time summer enjoyment. Height 18-20 inches, spread 22-24 inches and hardy to Zones 4b-9b.

Sunseekers Pumpkin Pie Coneflower from Monrovia is loaded with semi-double flowers that bloom throughout summer. Layers of orange petals encircle nectar-rich green cones. The orange hues start out yellow, aging to a peachy tone. Pollinators love this coneflower, which also makes an excellent cut flower. Hardy in Zones 4-9.

Schoneveld Breeding has several new colors in its Echinacea SunMagic Vintage series, including Brilliant Rose, Electric Orange, Hot Pink, Hot Red, Pearl White, Lipstick and Watermelon. The series, available in 15 total colors, is known for compact, mounding habit and unique colors. This next-generation Echinacea branches from the base of the plant and has large, long-lasting flowers. Height of 18-24 inches and hardy in Zones 4-9.

Echinacea Kismet ‘Pink Lemonade’ is the newest addition to Terra Nova Nurseries’ Kismet series. This variety grows with a rounded, compact habit and features long-lasting pink blooms with lemonade-colored petal tips, great for mixed beds and borders.

Erysimum

Danziger’s Sunstrong Erysimum series loves the heat, providing blooms throughout the summer. For 2025, there is a new sunny color. Sunstrong Yellow is a large, low-maintenance plant that’s drought tolerant and draws butterflies and hummingbirds to the garden. It is a first-year flowering perennial that requires no vernalization or bulking and is recommended for Zones 6-10.

The Erysimum Wallart series from Dümmen Orange gets a vibrant new color with the addition of Lavender. Light to medium-dark lavender blooms cover this compact plant with a perfectly mounded habit. The series is known for its early crop timing and its extended bloom time. Zones 6-9.

Eucalyptus

Eucalyptus preissiana Albany from Benary is a sun-loving, appealing green for pots and a great combo component plant. It has a compact plant habit for pot and container production. It is suitable for floral arrangements or for hanging in the shower, as the latest social media trends show. High germination and true-to-type tested. Plant in sun (needs at least six hours of sun). Grows 32-40 inches tall by 24-32 inches wide. Heat and drought tolerant. Conditionally hardy.

Eucalyptus populnea Murray from Benary is the perfect mixed container variety. It has large, blue-green leaves and a compact plant habit for pot and container production. Also great as a shower bouquet for self-care and wellness. High germination rate and true-to-type tested. Plant in sun (needs at least six hours of sun). Grows 24-32 inches tall by 24-32 inches wide. Plants are drought tolerant once established. Conditionally hardy.

Eucalyptus globulus StyX from Benary is a unique specimen plant that makes a great thriller in a mixed container. It also works well as a bedding and landscape plant. It has large, silvery-blue leaves and is a fast-growing, vigorous plant with extraordinary branching. High germination rate and true-to-type tested. Grows 80-100 inches tall by 32-40 inches wide. Grow in full sun. Plants are drought tolerant once established; perform well in dry to medium soils with good drainage. Low to moderate water needs. Hardy in Zones 9-12.

Euphorbia

Euphorbia x martinii Sahara Blackbird from PlantHaven International has a compact, bushy habit and excellent foliage color. New growth is dark red, maturing to dark purple-black by late summer when grown in full sun. Mature size is approximately 18 inches with an equal spread. Works well as a mixed container component or in the garden. Hardy in Zones 6-9.

Geranium

In PlantHaven International’s Geranium pratense ‘Storm Cloud’, new growth appears cherry red and matures to dark-green-edged dark red as the season progresses, with new leaf growth still coming through red. Flowers are held on strong stems and are semi-double and strong blue with a cerise frill. A strong-growing, slug-proof and mildew-resistant plant, flowering from the end of May with a second flush later in the season. Hardy to Zone 5.

Gerbera

HilverdaFlorist is featuring several new Gerbera: Garden Gerbera Garvinea Sweet Blaze, Garden Gerbera Garvinea Sweet Maggie (hot pink with a green center) and Garden Gerbera Garvinea Cheeky Hot Pink. Garvinea Sweet Blaze is the newest addition to the Garvinea Sweet Series, which features great weather tolerance and lots of flowers from early spring until the first frost. Maggie is an excellent choice for garden borders and landscaping. Cheeky Hot Pink is a quick-to-grow variety with a compact and uniform growing habit and extremely rich flowering, with small flowers showing from spring until frost. All are hardy to Zone 7.

Hakonechloa

Stripe It Rich Japanese forest grass from Monrovia features a fun color variation, with white-striped golden foliage. Stripe It Rich is a colorful groundcover for shady areas that brings color and texture to mixed borders, containers and mass plantings. Stripe It Rich also naturalizes well; clumps spread gently by rhizomes. Hardy in Zones 5-9.

Heliopsis

Heliopsis ‘Oriole Variegata’ from Must Have Perennials features bright variegated foliage accented with creamy white with green veins. Covered in large, 3-inch, long-lasting, golden-yellow daisy flowers, this Heliopsis attracts pollinators and is a showstopper with blooms or without. Good for beds and borders, cottage gardens and as a thriller in containers. Compact and well branched with a dense habit, this Heliopsis prefers full sun, blooms in summer and is hardy in Zones 4-9. Height 18 inches, spread 36 inches.

Helleborus

New to HilverdaFlorist’s Helleborus Awesome! Series is Nagano, featuring a high flower count and magnificent appearance. The first flowers appear in mid-October. Hardy to Zone 4.

HilverdaFlorist’s Helleborus Glamour Elance and Helleborus Glamour Strawberry Moon feature deep purple color and extra-large pink colored flowers, respectively. This vigorous growing plant has a big flower diameter and will be an eye-catcher in any garden during the wintertime. All Helleborus Glamour varieties have great ornamental value, an exceptional range of colors and unique flower shapes. Hardy to Zone 4.

HilverdaFlorist’s Helleborus JWLS Series varieties are heat-tolerant and, since they are from tissue culture, are suitable for controlled growth by programmed cultivation. New to this series is JWLS Diamonfire, offering long-lasting flowers and an impressive flower count. Hardy to Zone 4.

Helleborus x sternii The Rockies, a series from Must Have Perennials, is bred specifically for unique foliar interest, which extends the season for these late winter bloomers. Good for early season bloom and foliar interest for shade gardens, the series is deer and rabbit resistant, thrives in part shade to shade and is hardy in Zones 6-9. Height 8-10 inches, spread 12-14 inches. The series includes:

—Hollowtop Mountain: Foliage emerges green with bright white mid-veins and marbling. Flowers are singular and clear white early in the spring. As leaves mature, they hold attractive marbling and develop bright red petioles. Flowers persist on the plant and blush rose with age, then fade to green.

—Mt. Nebo: New foliage emerges bright red, maturing to pink, white and green speckled leaves. Bouquets of rosy-pink flowers emerge in early spring, persisting and fading to chartreuse.

—Pike’s Peak: Silver-gray leaves with finely toothed margins emerge in spring along with bouquets of chartreuse flowers. The foliage is accented with attractive venation and a silver overlay.

Hemerocallis

With Hemerocallis ‘See You Tomorrow’ from UNEX/ThinkPlants, flowers last four to five days each, instead of one day. Buds and flowers start green, mature to yellow and transition to dark yellow. Golden yellow flowers on top of slender foliage.

Heuchera

The Heuchera Summer Haze Series (Dark Pink, Light Pink and White) from Must Have Perennials features coral bells with tall flower stalks and large individual flowers that are striking against bright green foliage. When in flower, Summer Haze stands out in the landscape as a haze of color. Featuring an upright habit, it can be used en masse, in the landscape, as a cut flower and in shade gardens and cottage gardens. Hardy in Zones 5-9, it blooms in late spring to early summer and prefers part sun to shade. Height (foliage only) 7-9 inches, height (in flower) 22-25 inches and spread 12-18 inches.

Heuchera Forever ‘Midnight’ from Terra Nova Nurseries showcases heavily ruffled, purple-black leaves with crisp edges. It can grow in partial shade to full sun with a moderate, mounding growth habit. ‘Midnight’ adds a strong presence to edges, borders, containers and rock gardens. It also attracts hummingbirds and pollinators.

Walters Gardens’ Heuchera Dressed Up Series gains a silver selection with ‘Prom Dress’. Each pewter leaf is heavily ruffled and accented with dark charcoal veins. The newest leaves are flushed with violet, matching the undersides of the leaf. ‘Prom Dress’ looks great through autumn. Zones 4-9. A Proven Winners perennial.

Hosta

Hosta ‘Sorbet’ from UNEX/ThinkPlants is a new variegated sport off Hosta Gooseberry Sundae. Green/white variegation with strong red stems. Fast-growing and vigorous. Bare root input. Slug resistant.

Hosta Shadowland ‘Sound of Music’ from Walters Gardens features heavily corrugated, medio-variegated leaves. Chartreuse centers jet to glaucous blue-green margins. Centers mature to creamy white in summer. Zones 3-9. A Proven Winners perennial.

Hydrangea

The Game Changer series from Green Fuse Botanicals is known for its daylength neutrality and its zero-cooling requirement. It can be finished in as little as 12 weeks from unrooted cuttings. The new Giant Pink features an abundance of near dinner plate-sized blossoms. Use as a pot crop or a Zone 5 perennial blooming off new and old wood.

Hydrangea macrophylla My Beautiful Metta from Perlanova/ThinkPlants blooms for six months while constantly changing color. Floriferous with firm, hard flowers that begin light green and fade to white, then light pink, before aging to dark red with white and green marbling. An excellent rebloomer with medium vigor, perfect for 1-gallon pots or larger.

Leucanthemum

The new Leucanthemum Kilimanjaro from Green Fuse Botanicals was selected for its massive flowers. With an aggressive habit for easy large container fill and daylength neutrality, Kilimanjaro (Zone 5) is ready to bring massive color to any perennial program any time of year.

Leucanthemum Realflor CC ‘Real Tiny Bubbles’ from PlantHaven International features masses of small, fully rounded blooms, reminiscent of tiny bubbles. With a compact habit (16 inches by 14 inches) and improved disease resistance, it’s a robust drought resistant perennial once established. Also in the series is ‘Real Solar’, which features large flowers 3 inches in diameter. Three layers of banana yellow to soft cream petals with contrasting deep golden centers are carried on strong stems. Both are hardy to Zone 5.

Mangave

Mangave Art & Sol ‘Lavender Lady’ from Walters Gardens features broad smokey purple leaves with tiny white spines. ‘Lavender Lady’ has a well-rounded, geometric form capable of thrilling in a decorative or mixed container or standing alone as a landscape specimen. Zones 8-10. A Proven Winners perennial.

Pennisetum

Pennisetum alopecuroides ‘Water to Wine’ from Must Have Perennials features flowers that emerge black against bright green foliage, then fade to cinnamon. As temperatures cool, foliage blushes red and purple, while flowers fade to tan. This perennial adds textural interest to the garden for winter months and is tolerant of poor soil and adverse conditions. Good for front and middle borders and landscape planting, ‘Water to Wine’ features a compact, dense habit; thrives in full sun; blooms from mid-summer to frost; and is hardy in Zones 5-9. Height 24-36 inches, spread 24-36 inches.

Penstemon

Walters Gardens’ Bejeweled Bearded Penstemon Series (Penstemon barbatus) gets two additions with ‘Pink Pearls’ and ‘Rose Rhinestones’. In ‘Pink Pearls’, medium pink tubular flowers appear in late spring and early summer. ‘Rose Rhinestones’ has darker, redder flowers compared to ‘Pink Pearls’. This midsize series was selected for dense habits and large flowers. Zones 4-8. A Proven Winners perennial.

Phlox

The breeding in this new Woodland Phlox hybrida from Darwin Perennials keeps perennial benches in bloom after P. subulata and before P. divaricata, making the Spring Splash series a great high-color-impact choice for early-season sales. The plants grow in a nice low, mounding habit with excellent flower coverage. Available in Pink, Lilac and Violet. Hardy in Zones 4a-8b.

The Phlox Early series, including Blush Pop, from Dümmen Orange is the earliest P. paniculata on the market by up to four weeks. Phlox Early are compact and covered with long-lasting blooms, adding color to an early spring landscape.

Bred for lateness, Dümmen Orange’s Phlox Spring series, including Dark Leaf Pink, extends the flowering window by an additional three weeks. This series is hardy and has a compact mounding habit with commanding green foliage. Zones 3-9.

Large flowers of purple hues cover the two new colors in Dümmen Orange’s Phlox Woodlander series. A season extender thanks to its evergreen foliage, Woodlander can grow in part shade to full sun. Zones 3-9.

Polemonium

Golden Feathers Jacob’s Ladder from Monrovia has colorful yellow and green variegated foliage that forms a dense mound that glows in the garden. This new perennial also features delicate stems of small bluish-purple flowers in late spring and summer. Golden Feathers works well in shady gardens or small containers. It’s also resistant to powdery mildew. Hardy in Zones 4-8.

Salvia

Salvia rosmarinus Rosy*Pro* (Rosmarinus officinalis) from Hem Genetics is an aromatic evergreen perennial with an upright growth plant habit. Rosy*Pro* has strongly aromatic, grayish-green, needle-like leaves with pale blue flowers. Plants have excellent uniformity, and germination is greater than 85%. Perfect for the perennial herb garden, it is hardy in Zones 7-11.

Salvia Salgoon from HilverdaFlorist features four new colors: Lake Blueberry, Lake Flamingo (pink pictured), Lake Como (light blue) and Lake Onega Improved. With rich flowering, vigorous growth, intense color, ease of care and impressive performance, this variety brings liveliness to the garden, as salvia is a true pollinator magnet. Hardy to Zone 8.

Salvia Bodacious ‘Jammin’ Jazz’ from PlantHaven International features large saturated hot pink flowers held on deep chocolate-black calyx and stems. Strong green foliage color that doesn’t yellow with the season. Improved branching gives a tight rounded habit. Excellent for cool growing and early season sales. Great for hummingbird gardens. Hardy to Zone 8.

Salvia Vibe ‘Ignition Sunrise’ is the first bicolor in this PlantHaven International series with peach and pink flowers. Flexible stems; ideal for shipping, as well as for pollinator-friendly gardens. Ultimately 24 inches by 24 inches and hardy to Zone 7.

Scabiosa

Scabiosa incisa ‘Kudo Blue’ from Hishtil is a magnet for bees and butterflies. Ideal for beds, patio containers and borders, this hardy perennial offers a long season of color, with delicate lavender blue blooms adorning the plant from June to October. Its interest doesn’t end with summer — ‘Kudo Blue’ transitions into seedheads for added winter interest as autumn arrives. Scabiosa incisa is also available in ‘Kudo Pink’.

Silene

Silene keiski Silky Pink and Silky White from Hem Genetics is a compact-mounded, semi-hanging, heavily-branched plant with masses of single flowers. An ideal component for rock gardens, mixed containers and hanging baskets. Compact and mounding well-branching plant habit. Excellent weather resistance and flowers first year from seed. Hardy in Zones 5-8.

Stachys

Stachys byzantina Furby from Benary is a fun foliage plant known for its distinctive soft velvety leaves, low-growing habit and ease of care. It has large silvery wooly leaves and is an extremely heat tolerant and sturdy plant. It is a fast and easy-growing evergreen. Best used as a bedding, landscape and pot plant. Grows 12-16 inches tall by 16-20 inches wide. Hardy in Zones 4-9.

Thyme

Native to the wild landscapes of Spain and Portugal, Thymus mastichina compact ‘Pompom’ from Hishtil features broad and distinctive leaves. During the summer, it bursts into elegant white pompom-shaped flowers. Part of the Double Marvel series suitable for both ornamental display and culinary uses, the compact ‘Pompom’ attracts a variety of pollinators, such as bees, butterflies and hoverflies.

Veronica
