They say change is the only constant and from what we’ve seen in the past year, I’d have to agree. The last 12 months have brought shifts in life, business and the market that no one could have ever foreseen. And while change is difficult, it also forces us to grow.
In the time I’ve been lucky enough to serve as editor of Greenhouse Management magazine, I’ve gained an intense appreciation for all of the hard work and dedication that goes into the beautiful plants we see in our landscapes every day (and especially the ones I’ve bought for my own indoor and outdoor gardens).
I can’t believe how much the market has changed over the past couple of years. Watching the boom in houseplant interest, seeing COVID-era gardeners delve into beautifying their spaces and enjoying my own foray into the world of horticulture has been incredibly gratifying. The prominence of plants in our everyday lives is all over social media, interior decorating, fashion, advertising and more. There’s no way to avoid it — plants are trendy again.
And it’s all thanks to people like you who give your all to the greenhouse every day. And to do that, you need the right people in the right places. That’s why I’m so excited to hand the reins of Greenhouse Management over to Matthew Grassi. Matthew was previously managing editor of this magazine and is ready to take on the challenge of covering this exciting time in greenhouse production.
Matthew has covered agriculture for many years, starting out in field crops and diving into greenhouse operations in 2019. You’ll be in good hands with Matthew and the rest of the Greenhouse Management team: Associate Editor Chris Manning and Assistant Editor Sierra Allen as they continue to bring you quality stories, news and advice for greenhouse professionals.
As for myself, I’ll be shifting my focus to another exciting, growing horticulture market with our Garden Center magazine and the accompanying Conference & Expo coming up in September. I’m happy to say I’ll be remaining on staff in an advisory role here and can’t wait to see what the spring season brings.
I hope you all have a wonderful spring that brings profits, growth and the satisfaction that you’re bringing joy to your customers with the wonderful work that you do. Here’s to a bright and exciting future for all!
