As part of U.S. EPA’s ongoing commitment to transparency in its pesticide regulatory decisions, the federal agency has developed a process for public participation for potential new pesticide active ingredients and certain new pesticide uses and another process for public involvement in the review of already registered pesticides. Differences between the two processes reflect the particular regulatory requirements of initial registration as compared to registration review.
Starting Oct. 1, 2009, the public can review and comment on the risk assessments and proposed registration decisions for certain pesticide registration actions. This public process, which expands the transparency of the EPA’s pesticide registration decisions, applies to new pesticide active ingredients, and the first food use, first outdoor use and first residential use for currently registered active ingredients.
