Agastache Nectar Series

A how-to production guide


Available in five colors — Apricot, Grape, Grapefruit, Orange and Raspberry — the Nectar series provides nectar-filled blossoms from summer to fall. Growing 15-18 inches tall with a 15-inch spread, these agastaches produce compact green foliage and spikes dense with flowers. Hardy to Zone 7, this floriferous series is ideal for containers and can be placed in a deck or patio pot to attract hummingbirds and butterflies.


Production:

  • Plant in the greenhouse at 65°F.
  • Use a soilless mix with good drainage.
  • Plant in full sun.
  • Space early and avoid overfeeding to produce compact, well-branched and toned plants.
  • Use a balanced feed of 200 ppm nitrogen.
  • Maintain a pH of about 6.0.
  • Manual pinching or chemical pinching with Ethephon two to three weeks after planting may help slow blooming and encourage branching.
  • Grape and Grapefruit grow slightly faster than the other varieties and may need applications of Damonozide to control internode length on vegetative shoots.
  • Deadhead to prolong shelf life and keep plants fresh.
  • Plants should be lightly moist but not overwatered to prevent soft weak growth.
  • Keep an eye out for aphids, thrips, mites and whitefly.



Did you know?
Agastache Nectar will begin blooming heavily when day length is more than 12 hours. Early planting will make it easier to fill pots before flowering begins.
