Research shows consumers favor flower fragrance most
The American Floral Endowment (AFE) and researchers from the University of Florida (UF) present compelling evidence about just how enticing and alluring flower fragrance is to consumers, among other findings, in three new consumer preference studies.
Researchers aim for a better understanding of what flower buyers really want – color, shape, size, fragrance, etc.— to better meet consumer demands and increase sales, and the results show consumers overwhelmingly desire fragrance.

Canadian legislation to increase plant breeders’ rights gains support
A group of leading Canadian farmer and agricultural organizations are joining forces to support Canadian government legislation intended to improve Plant Breeders’ Rights in Canada.
Partners in Innovation, which represents farmer and agricultural groups across Canada, believes expanded seed variety protection for plant breeders will promote further investment in seed research and innovation to benefit farmers and the economy.
Pantone names Radiant Orchid 2014 color of the year
Pantone has named Radiant Orchid its Color of the Year for 2014, and calls the hue “a captivating, magical, enigmatic purple.”
“While the 2013 color of the year, PANTONE 17-5641 Emerald, served as a symbol of growth, renewal and prosperity, Radiant Orchid reaches across the color wheel to intrigue the eye and spark the imagination,” said Leatrice Eiseman, executive director of the Pantone Color Institute, in a press release.

Breeders to exhibit in new partnership at 2014 California Spring Trials
Six well-known breederS in the horticulture industry announced plans for a joint-venture varieties display at the 2014 California Spring Trials at Windmill Nursery in Buellton, Calif. This partnership will include Westhoff, Beekenkamp, Skagit Gardens, PAC-Elsner, Terra Nova Nurseries, and Plug Connection. The Spring Trials will be Sunday, April 6 to Wednesday, April 9.
New seed breeder enters market
Ikasido Global Group, a new international seed company with headquarters in Westland, the Netherlands, has recently entered the global market.
Ikasido Global Group is led by Peter van Zeijl, previously the Managing Director of Sakata Holland B.V.. Mr. Van Zeijl has over 20 years of expertise in international seed business.
