California, here we come

It’s that time of year again — time for Spring Trials. Although this is my first year attending, I think I have a pretty good idea of all of the energy and preparation and optimism that goes into making this industry-leading happen each year.

As I was conducting interviews for this month’s cover story (page 34), I was particularly impressed with everyone’s belief that Spring Trials still has a very important role in the industry. Growers who are just ramping up for their selling season find time to break away from their operations to attend this marketing and merchandising extravaganza each year.

How does an event that essentially began in the 1960s remain key to an industry that evolves on a continual basis? Where will Spring Trials be headed in the future? These are some of the questions I attempted to address in this month’s cover story. I’d love to hear what you think about the origin and evolution of Spring Trials. Drop me a line any time at astankiewicz@gie.net.

Speaking of evolution, there’s a change in the way you can receive information and updates about Spring Trials and any number of industry happenings. Greenhouse Management has a new app for iPad and iPhone, and you can download it for free at the App Store.

This new app has more interactive features, photos and sounds than before, and it was custom-built by our team of in-house designers. It’s a true native app, which means you get all of our content right on your tablet or phone.

Even if you already have the old app, you’ll need to download the new one, as the old version stopped working at the end of January. So go to the App Store today and download the new version. It just takes a few minutes, and you’ll be glad you did.
