Aquatrols announced Dan Macias as territory manager, covering the Pacific Northwest, Western Canada and Hawaii. Macias has 20 years of sales experience in grass seed, fertilizers, composts, growing mixes and chemicals.
Becker Underwood named Sherman Hollins regional sales manager for the Eastern and Southern U.S. He will be headquartered in North Carolina where he will be responsible for sales covering 17 states. Hollins, originally from Orion, Ill., earned his bachelor’s degree in agricultural economics from University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign, and his MBA from the University of Iowa. Hollins comes to Becker Underwood with 24 years sales and marketing experience in agricultural consumer products.
Dan Kuester, a marketing communications specialist in agriculture products, also joins Becker Underwood. He will work in the Ames, Iowa, headquarters. He has 25 years experience working in communications including radio, television and print advertising, as well as copywriting and public relations experience, most recently at Iowa State University. He earned his bachelor’s degree in communications from Luther College and his master’s in communications from Drake University. Kuester will work in the communications department under Communication Manager Charles Whitt.
OFA announced television personality Joe Lamp’l as the keynote speaker for OFA Short Course. Lamp’l’s presentation, “Can you hear me now? Voices from beyond the greenhouse,” will focus on strategies to reach today’s consumers and what to say when you do. Lamp’l, also known as joe gardener, will look at the products and services the industry sells and offer a consumer perspective. Lamp’l appears on Fresh from Garden on DIY Network, GardenSMART on PBS, and Growing a Greener World on national public television. Ball Horticultural Co. is sponsoring Lamp’l’s participation.
Allan Armitage received the Liberty Hyde Bailey Award from the American Horticulture Society (AHS), based in Washington, D.C. The Liberty Hyde Bailey Award is the highest award given by AHS.
