Emma Orange Bicolor is a sport of Emma Salmon Bicolor. This late season mounding plant produces large, showy flowers combining dark orange and orange. Emma Coral Bicolor has a mounding habit and produces large, bicolor flowers making it a good choice for late-season fall sales. Aideen Red Fire is a very early spherical plant with a compact habit and uniform flowering. Edana Red is a late season variety that is a red ball of color covered with deep red daisy flowers. Hestia Hot Red features bright red flowers that retain their color in the heat. The mounding plants are early to flower. Marjean Coral is an early, nicely rounded plant that produces bright decorative flowers. Wanda Purple is a sport of Wanda Lavender. This early season variety has a spherical shape and very uniform flowering producing bold purple flowers. Fides North America launched its garden mum trial program at this year’s California Spring Trials. Bred specifically for the North American market, plants have a Belgian mounding habit. Most of the plants available in the program produce decorative type flowers. Natural season response time includes early, late and very late varieties. DIANTHUS Syngenta has added new varieties to three of its series. Cherry is a new color to the Elation F1 D. barbatus × D. chinesis series. Plants have a compact and branching habit that requires use of fewer growth regulators. It has scented flowers and long-lasting garden performance. Crimson is the newest addition to the Diabunda F1 series. It matches the series for earliness, compact branching habit and garden performance. This extra early flowering variety requires no vernalization. It is easy to produce for early spring and fall sales. Pink is the newest color in the Barbarini F1 series. Plants are compact and uniform in habit and timing making them easier to grow and ship. They are programmable to flower April through September. Plants bloom the first year and hardy to Zone 5. DIASCIA Diascia barberae Darla Red Improved from Syngenta Flowers, GoldFisch Vegetative displays large flowers with deep rich red color and dark green foliage. Plants are strong and upright with extra-large blooms. Flower form, texture and habit make for great component plants in mixed combinations. GERBERA The Garvinea series from Florist de Kwakel is the only “all weather gerbera” on the market. It is considered a perennial from Zone 7. Produced from tissue culture, plants are disease and insect resistant. Available in 18 colors, the four new varieties are Romy, Vivian, Valerie and Lindsey. ![]() American Takii has introduced a new variety and series. Glamour Red is a 2011 All-America Selections award winner. This F1 hybrid is the first shiny leaf bedding-type kale. Its unique leaves protect against plant water loss. The foliage colors at temperatures of 55°F-60°F. The vibrant color provides great contrast to green leaves. It is excellent in 4-inch and premium large pots. The F1 Song Bird series comes in Pink, Red and White. The compact plants have round leaves and are more upright for better rain drainage. Temperatures of 55°F-60°F intensify the foliage color. Suitable for 4-inch and premium pots. LINARIA Apricot is the newest addition to the Fantasy series from American Takii. This naturally dwarf, quick crop takes eight to 10 weeks to flower, withstands frosts and short duration freezes to 26°F. Excellent for year-round production in mild areas. It is a good 65 mph plant for vibrant color in containers. OSTEOSPERMUM Cinnamon and Bronze are two additions to Syngenta Flowers, GoldFisch Vegetative Osteospermum ecklonis Tradewinds series. Plants produce large daisy flowers, have excellent branching and a robust habit. Very low maintenance required makes showing display of color in baskets, mixed planters or landscape easy. The new Akila series from PanAmerican Seed is compact and grows with no pinching in a seven- to 10-day window. It’s an easy crop for high density, mechanized production for pots and packs. Colors include Purple, White and Lavender Shades. PANSY Floranova’s new Freefall series starts with five colors. Plants have a vigorous low spreading habit and medium-sized flowers. The daylength neutral plants flower throughout the winter. Their habit makes them ideal for late summer production since they are less prone to stretch. Sakata Ornamentals has introduced two new varieties. Majestic Giant II Rose with Blotch Improved offers a more compact and dwarf plant habit along with shorter stems when compared to the original variety. A deeper, more intense color is well matched to the Majestic Giant II series, which retains a compact habit from autumn through spring, offering 4-inch flowers on a variety less affected by temperature and light. Plants reach a height of 8 inches and a spread of 10 inches. Little or no plant growth regulator is needed. Dynamite Blue Jeans has strong color-contrasting blooms that face upward with a compact habit. This large-flowered variety is a vigorous grower reaching 6 inches tall and 8 inches wide. Sygenta Flowers, Goldsmith Seeds has introduced several new pansies to existing series. Delta Premium Red with Blotch, like other cultivars in the series, has a tight plant habit that resists stretching and outstanding uniformity. Large, strong upward-facing flowers flow freely and stand up to the elements. Fire and Ocean are new additions to the Colossus series. Plants display a tight habit that is easy to produce, provides longer shelf life and requires little to no plant growth regulators. The mounded plants produce huge, upward-facing blooms and resist stretching during warm weather conditions. Flowers come in bright and bold colors with the newest additions adding warm and cool colors to the series. Black and Purple are the trendy new color additions to the Mariposa series. The well-branched plants quickly fill out pots and finish quickly. Their extensive root system improves overwinter performance and enhances their ability to overwinter. Midnight Sun is the newest addition to the Karma series with its unique deep purple with yellow face. Bushy plants produce large flowers early on strong, short peduncles with strong root systems. The Matrix series from PanAmerican Seed expands with True Blue and Lemon, creating a new Tricolor Mixture (Lemon, True Blue and Purple). Matrix is design-engineered for superior plant architecture and less stretch for better looking plants at retail. ![]() American Takii has added two varieties. Iona Frosty Blue Improved has been improved with shorter flower stems, rounder flowers and more compact habit. The series has 18 colors, both blotch and clear. Plants are early, compact, free flowering with large flowers. They can be grown in packs, pots and mixed containers and good for landscapes. Nature Rose Picotee is an F1 multiflora pansy and viola cross enabling the plants to withstand both heat and cold. Extremely floriferous, flowers cover the compact, strong plants for a mass of color. The 20 variety series includes both standard and unique colors. Excellent for both spring and fall sales, plants are strong landscape performers that rebound quickly from rain and freezes. SNAPDRAGON Arrow Magenta is the newest addition to this intermediate Antirrhinum majus series from Syngenta Flowers, Goldsmith Seeds. Flowers are magenta-red. This intermediate series flowers very early, and less day length sensitivity makes it easy for outdoor production in winter and spring. This variety displays central flowering with dense lateral branches that stand up to wind and rain. Plant habit is versatile so plants can be grown in packs, 4- and 6-inch pots. VIOLA Penny Azure Dawn from Syngenta Flowers, Goldsmith Seeds mimics the colors of daybreak on a cool morning with the unique color of blue shades fading to soft yellows. Plants in the Penny series have uniform flowering and a tight branching habit. The series is more heat tolerant for summer and fall production than any other series. Sorbet XP varieties from PanAmerican Seed deliver the most uniform habit and tightest flowering window. New colors include Coconut Duet XP Improved, Delft Blue XP Improved (a Fleuroselect Gold Medal Winner), Purple Ice XP Improved and Raspberry XP. The plants’ excellent branching assures more flowers and better holding at retail. American Takii has two additions to its F1 Gem series. Scarlet and Frosty Blue Improved are compact, well-branched plants with short flower stems and increased floriferousness. Plants in the series have exceptional heat tolerance and strong overwintering ability. They are excellent for color bowls, containers pots, hanging baskets and landscapes. There are 18 varieties, in both standard and unique colors. Eight new colors expand Hem Genetics’ Corina series to 14 colors. The varieties are well-matched having a compact, uniform habit and long flowering period. The well-branching plants are suitable for packs and pots.
