New Year, new board

This January, we bring you the 2018 Greenhouse Management Editorial Advisory Board. Our new six-member board brings together prominent growers, a horticulturist and a university professor, whose insights and knowledge will help us continue to provide you with the information you need to maximize your greenhouse’s success.

Christopher J. Currey, an assistant professor of horticulture at Iowa State University, writes Production Pointers each month, addressing important topics for growers of all sizes. Chris teaches courses on greenhouse management, fall and spring floriculture production, and hydroponic food crop production and is a frequent speaker at industry events.

Mark Foertmeyer, owner of Foertmeyer & Sons Greenhouse Co., was recognized at the 2017 Horticultural Industry Leadership Awards for his contributions to the industry. Mark served as a past president of OFA, and as the first chairman of the board of AmericanHort. Based in central Ohio, Mark has operated Foertmeyer & Sons for the past 30 years.

Leslie F. Halleck, owner of the Dallas-based green industry consulting company Halleck Horticultural, is Greenhouse Management’s business management expert, combining 25 years of industry experience as a horticulturist, consultant, marketer, speaker and author to advise growers in Hort Truths each month.

John Hoffman’s appreciation for grasses led him to open North Carolina-based Hoffman Nursery more than 30 years ago. John is past president of the Perennial Plant Association and was featured with his wife Jill in our January 2016 cover story.

Dorothy Russo is the chief of growing operations at grower-retailer Al’s Garden & Home in Oregon, featured in our April 2017 cover story. Dorothy joined the family business in 1995 as a specialty crop grower and moved into her current role overseeing the production side of the business in 2003.

Anthony van Hoven, president of Battlefield Farms, grew up helping out with the family greenhouse business in Virginia. After obtaining his degree in business administration in 2001, he began working full-time at the greenhouse, eventually becoming the production manager and then president.
