Sizzling succulents

They may be small in stature, but these plants continue to bring in big sales.

Succulents are not going out of style — if you’re selling to independent garden centers, they’re still stocking and craving these little pieces of art.

As reported in the 2023 Houseplant Report from sister publication Garden Center magazine, a whopping 97% of IGCs surveyed said they sell succulents. In 2022, succulents ranked as the No. 1 most popular houseplant option, according to the report.

Although IGCs cited spring as the busiest season for houseplant sales, talk to your retail customers and create fun and unique succulent packages for the entire year. Think gifts for Valentine’s Day, Mother’s Day and hostess gifts, for example. Other holidays that could include succulents in marketing plans include St., Patrick’s Day, Earth Day, Cinco de Mayo, Halloween, Thanksgiving and Christmas. And don’t forget summer wedding season. Succulents on tabletops, in bouquets and boutonnieres or for guest take-home gifts would be memorable.
