Postiva™ fungicide, the latest innovation from Syngenta, is a tool for ornamental growers to control some of the most challenging diseases such as leaf spots, flower blights, powdery mildew and Fusarium, as well as bacterial disease suppression.
Postiva is the first product within the ornamental market to be powered by a combination of two active ingredients from FRAC Groups 7 and 3: ADEPIDYN® technology (7) and difenoconazole (3). This unique combination provides disease protection through two modes of action, offering a strong defense against multiple pathogens while helping prevent the development of resistance.
With application flexibility fit for any operation, Postiva can be applied to vegetable plants1 and non-bearing fruit and nut plants in addition to ornamental crops. Product applications can be made by spray, drench, chemigation or cold fogging, making the application process more flexible for growers. Upon application, Postiva quickly penetrates plant tissue to create a strong barrier against diseases and stops the progression of existing infections.
What Makes Postiva Unique?
ADEPIDYN technology is the first member of a subclass of SDHIs that enhances fungicide efficacy with broader activity and longer residual performance. As a result, adding Postiva into a rotation cycle with other fungicides helps strengthen control of tough ornamental diseases throughout the growing season.
“Postiva stands out in the ornamental space due to its excellent control of Fusarium, a tough soil-borne pathogen,” said Nancy Rechcigl, technical service manager for Syngenta Ornamentals.
Fusarium is a challenge to ornamental growers as it is difficult to control if discovered too late. By applying Postiva preventively, growers are more likely to prevent a Fusarium outbreak among their ornamental crops. Since the active ingredients have both systemic and translaminar movement, the fungicide spreads throughout ornamental crops to protect all parts of the plant.
Spring bedding plants such as calibrachoa, zinnias, geraniums, pansies and impatiens can be particularly vulnerable to infections caused by botrytis, powdery mildew and leaf-spotting pathogens. The broad spectrum and long residual activity offered by Postiva fungicide will help limit the possibility of infections and costly damage.
“To control harmful diseases in spring bedding plants, I recommend rotating Postiva with other trusted Syngenta products like Mural®, Palladium® and Daconil® brand fungicides to create a robust and diverse disease management program,” Rechcigl said.
