Everde Growers filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy Feb. 24, according to court documents from the U.S. Bankruptcy Court of Southern Texas.
The Houston-based company, TreeSap Farms, LLC, owns or operates 15 growing facilities across Texas, California, Florida and Oregon, spanning more than 6,700 total acres of production. TreeSap is the holding company for Everde Growers. The company produces 33 million plants each year, according to its website.
TreeSap, LLC began as TreeTown USA, founded by David Saperstein in 2000. Jonathan Saperstein purchased the company from his father in 2015. Saperstein implemented new analytical approaches to plant production, including extensive data tracking.
In 2017, the company entered the California market by acquiring Village Nurseries. In 2018, the company added 2,000 acres of container production in Oregon and California by acquiring the division of Color Spot Nurseries that was formerly Hines Growers.
The company changed its name to Everde Growers in 2020. The rebrand followed nearly six years of strategic acquisitions to expand the company’s footprint nationwide, with farms operating in Oregon, California, Texas and Florida. The company’s most recent acquisition was La Verne Nursery in 2022, which was brought on board to add fruit tree production to Everde’s production mix.
This is a developing story. We have reached out to Everde representatives for comment and will share updates when available.
