When OHP launched its Biosolutions line in 2016, it aimed to help growers looking for an alternative way to manage pest and disease issues in their greenhouse. Today, as OHP introduces new products like Kalmor, that goal remains the same.
Here’s what interested growers should know about OHP’s Biosolutions line, according to Technical Services Manager Dr. Carlos Bográn.
Greenhouse Management: What is the OHP Biosolutions line and what does it offer growers?
Dr. Carlos Bográn: It specifically targets the problems or the challenges that growers face when they are trying to integrate either vegetables or an alternative/organic program for pest and disease management. The Biosolutions line offers solutions, if you will, to those challenges faced by growers. They have used conventional products in the past, but now they also want to include vegetable growing or they want to use alternative products because of their marketing efforts, or all those things – without having to go somewhere else, backed by the technical support of OHP.
GM: What makes OHP’s Biosolutions line a potential fit for growers?
CB: We invest in research and development under commercial conditions by doing work with the growers on these products to make sure that they fit within their production systems. We stand behind the quality and the technical service behind them. We're able to put them into programs [that are] specific for the [grower‘s] needs.
GM: What are some of the misconceptions growers have about Biosolutions? And what’s one tip growers should take when considering using Biosolutions products?
CB: A lot of times it’s that incorporating them takes more than just replacing a conventional product with one of the Biosolutions products. It's not just a matter of replacing a conventional with a biological because sometimes the biological needs to be used in a different way or a different frequency in particular. They give it a fair shot by using it based on the instructions of the manufacturer. In terms of rates, in terms of frequency of application, and also in terms of application volume – those may all play a role in the effectiveness of those Biosolutions relative to what they may be used to.
GM: Where can growers get more information about Biosolutions?
CB: Talk directly with our regional sales managers. They're part of our technical team and they can point them to the right direction. And then they will decide if we need to involve other resources. But we are always available directly or through the web to answer any questions. That's why we call ourselves partners with solutions.
