Ontario, CA - J.C. Bakker & Sons Ltd. (Bakkers) announces an open house week celebrating 70 years in business.

“We look forward to hosting many customers and industry partners for an open house week during the second week of September. We are also delighted to concurrently host this years Landscape Ontario Industry Auction on September 12th,” John Bakker III, general manager says.

Founded in 1949, with horticultural roots as far back as the early 1900’s, Bakkers began with John

Bakker Sr., an immigrant from the Netherlands, who along with his family settled in the Niagara Region in 1948. John Bakker Sr. brought with him over 25 years’ experience as a grower in the Netherlands.

Brothers Dave and John Bakker Jr. continued growing the business, working closely with the federal government, several universities, the International Plant Propagators’ Society and crews in the field. Their example is continued today with 3rd and 4th generations of family from both brothers involved in daily operations of the nursery.

Bakkers began as a wholesale operation, but also catered to local consumers through an award winning retail garden center from 1971 to 1987. Today, Bakkers provides nursery stock to garden centers and select mass merchants across North America.

“We would like to thank our loyal customers, dedicated staff, and committed industry partners for 70
years of business and we invite prospective customers to join in on the next 70 years,” David Bakker

Sr., co-founder says.
