The Ontario Greenhouse Vegetable Growers have received $100,000 from the Ontario Market Investment Fund to promote their tomatoes, cucumbers and peppers to consumers in Toronto and Ottawa. The organization’s May newsletter reports it will use various forms of media to promote Ontario greenhouse products and to raise awareness of the availability of these products throughout the year.
OGVG general manager George Gilvesy said the funding will assist growers in getting the message out to consumers about supporting local growers. OGVG is planning to provide an additional $100,000 for the Oh-So-Local campaign. The campaign is scheduled to run during May and June and again in the fall. Ads will appear on the outside and inside of buses, on billboards and in radio commercials.
Formed in 1967, OGVG consists of 227 growers who operate 1,824 acres of vegetable greenhouses. Ontario-grown greenhouse vegetables account for $500 million in annual sales.
