At Cultivate’23, Stuppy Greenhouse will be celebrating 150 years in business.
The company was founded in 1873 by Laurence “L.J.” Stuppy, who sold roses at a storefront in St. Joseph, Missouri. Since then, five generations of the Stuppy family have run the business. That includes Matt Stuppy, the current company president. Recently, the company has expanded into offering construction services along with providing greenhouse structures.
“We are focused on optimization, such as reducing the number of glazing bars, having fewer parts, better quality, and integrating more automated systems,” Stuppy says. “We have also developed hydronic heating and hydroponic growing systems for greenhouses, so we can provide excellent services in those areas as well. All of these contribute to energy efficiency, better plant quality and lower maintenance costs.”
Stuppy Greenhouse is one of the leading suppliers of greenhouse structures for schools and universities, meaning it is the primary greenhouse company providing growing environments that foster the next generation of growers, whether it’s high school students learning horticulture basics or scholars at leading universities testing out the industry’s cutting-edge solutions, Stuppy says.
“With our company experience as growers and manufacturers, we are able to help identify customers’ needs, customize the greenhouse for the technology they require and build it properly,” he says. “The nice thing about having been in business for 150 years is we can look back and see where the company pivoted or adjusted to different market trends and technologies. We are continuing to do that, which is why we have developed heating products and growing system products that we know will be successful for the grower. We will continue to diversify into other areas of controlled-environment agriculture and play a part in the success of the greenhouse industry.”
At Cultivate’23, scheduled for July 16-18, Stuppy will be at booth #2925. They will have free coffee, free hot sauce to take home and will be giving away a Big Green egg grill. More information is available here.
