In a press release, Terra Nova Nurseries debuted a look at a new echinacea variety and series: Dark Shadows Wicked. The plant, a hybrid, is upright growing, features watermelon pink flowers with dense, pine-green foliage. It also has a heavy crown that supports its large bloom count and dark, chocolate brown stems.
The breeder says it has a number of uses, including containers, as a cut flower, a pollinator attractor and a hummingbird attractor, among other uses. As a perennial, it blooms from July to October with a clumping and upright growth habit. Its USDA hardiness zones are 4-9 with exposure allowed for full season. It also has a foliage height of 12”, a flower height of 16” and a foliage spread of 14”.
A “Plant Profile” and “Grower Recipe” for the variety are available to growers and retailers here.
