Terra Nova Nurseries announced a sneak peek of its brand-new Echinacea Fresco ‘Apricot’ variety, which is a new variety in the Echinacea Fresci Series. The grey-green foliage of this new echinacea variety complements its apricot-colored flowers that feature light-violet and coral brushstroke-like streaks. Echinacea Fresco ‘Apricot’ is a rapidly growing variety with an outstanding crown count and long-lasting color with minimal color shifting. This medium landscape-sized echinacea’s habit is narrow and upright, making it an ideal mid-border or background plant.

U.S.D.A. Hardiness Zones for Echinacea Fresco ‘Apricot’ are 4-9, and its exposure allows for full sun. This plant likes to be moderately dry between waterings, and it has a foliage height of 23”, a foliage spread of 20”, and a flower height of 29”.

Finish time from liner to a 4-inch pot is six to eight weeks. Finish time from liner to a 1-gallon pot is 12 to 14 weeks. The Terra Nova breeding team recommends that growers do not cover the crown with soil by planting it too deeply. Echinacea grows well with 50 to 55° F nights and 60 to 65° F days.

Terra Nova Nurseries has created a “Plant Profile” page and “Grower Recipe” specific to this new variety, so growers interested in orders can learn about growing habits, plant characteristics, fertilization recommendations, water requirements and other insights provided by the breeding team. These documents can be viewed and downloaded for printing here.
