Rooftop greenhouse in Washington D.C. providing flowers, produce to city residents

According to the city, the Edgewood Recreation Center facility provides 600 pounds of fruits and vegetables each week.

When the Edgewood Recreation Center opened last year in Northeast D.C., Mayor Muriel Bowser said she wanted it to be a place to "play, learn, and even grow fresh produce."

Now, with a rooftop community garden on top of the facility, providing fresh fruits and vegetables to the community has become a reality.

Since May the D.C. Department of Recreation has grown a garden on the rooftop of the rec center.

They have a range of produce as well as flowers that they give away to the public.
