Pantone has announced its Color of the Year for 2025: Mocha Mousse.
The color, formally known as Pantone 17-1230, is described as "a warming rich brown hue" that "nurtures with its suggestion of the delectable quality of cacao, chocolate and coffee, appealing to our desire for comfort."
In selecting this year's color, the company noted "a growing movement to align ourselves more closely with the natural world." The color, "characterized by its organic nature...honors and embraces the sustenance of our physical environment," Pantone said in a news release.
“Underpinned by our desire for every day pleasures, Mocha Mousse expresses a level of thoughtful indulgence,” says Pantone Color Institute Executive Director Leatrice Eiseman. “Sophisticated and lush, yet at the same time an unpretentious classic, Mocha Mousse extends our perceptions of the browns from being humble and grounded to embrace aspirational and luxe. Infused with subtle elegance and earthy refinement, Mocha Mousse presents a discrete and tasteful touch of glamour. A flavorful brown shade, Mocha Mousse envelopes us with its sensorial warmth.”
As part of the release, Pantone created several color palettes in which Moucha Mousse is used, including one called Floral Pathways. Pantone also noted Mocha Mousse's applications in apparel and fashion, hair and beauty, home décor and interior design, and packaging and multimedia design.
Pantone is partnering with several companies on products featuring the color, including Motorola (cellphones), Joybird (home décor), Pura (fragrances), Wix Studio (web design assets), Libratone (headphones), Spoonflower (home décor), Ipsy (makeup and beauty products), Society6 (home décor) and Ultafabrics (clothing).
This year marks the 26th anniversary of the Pantone Color of the Year, with the company featuring the color in events and experiences around the world. In the color's world unveiling, the London Eye was lit in Mocha Mousse on Dec. 5.
